Video on Agriculture Improvements in the Liuzhou Area

I had previously commented on a Liuzhou government video encouraging foreign investment, and just watched another on the state of agriculture in Liuzhou and the surrounding areas.

The video states that the primary base of agriculture in the Liuzhou area is in Liuzhou surburban areas and in two outlying counties. That confuses me a little, because all six of Liuzhou City's counties have strong agricultural bases, though they do produce a wide variety of agricultural products.

The Liuzhou agriculture video does give a good introduction to the general agricultural situation in the Liuzhou City area though. The government's efforts to improve the agriculture-related industries has helped not only agriculture itself, but forestry, animal husbandry, fishery (pisciculture), and subsidiary (related) occupations.

As the video says, this has varied the food choice in Luizhou. Many non-staple foods are now available that once could not be found. The government has encouraged commercial companies to join together with the small family-owned businesses to improve the quality and quantity of output, especially of fowl, fish, and dairy products. This enables Luizhou to be producing these foods not only for a local market, but also for sale on China's East Coast, Hong Kong, and Macao.

The video even mentions that the increased emphasis on agriculture has also helped develop the (seemingly unrelated) tourism industry! Personally, I find that a bit funny, but having been to some of China's ag-tourist spots, I understand a little. You can spend a day touring a pomelo farm, checking out pine trees, or (as I once did) pick your own stawberries. For all these, I would have to say "user discretion advised."
